Locals know this place most commonly as “Nannypie Lane”, although officially it’s called Wilson Place. This stretch of the River Kent is near Sedgwick, on the outskirts of Kendal and is a fantastic place to have a family walk and / or a picnic on a hot sunny day.
Turn off the main A591 at the A590 Brettargh Holt roundabout junction, taking the Hincaster exit. You can park on the lay by on the left (grid reference 506870 on OS map OL7) or at the start of the walk (about 8 spaces) at grid reference 508876.
The walk starts at the wobbly footbridge at Wilson Place, and takes you northwards, up along the river shore, up to Hawes Bridge, loops through Larkrigg and then back down to Wilson Place, totalling 2.5 miles. You can of course just go for a picnic and a paddle, or do an out and back walk to whatever distance you desire. Here’s a map of the 2.5 mile loop:

Walks nearby here include Sizergh Wild Trail, Low Sizergh Barn Farm Trail and Levens Hall Deer Park.
