1 – 2.5 miles

Walks that are between 1 and 2.5 miles in distance

Morecambe – Happy Mount Park, Prom & Beach

Although technically not a family walk in the Lake District, this was a fantastic family day out, which also involved a walk along the wide, safe prom.  You could walk as little or as far as you liked!  The day involved some time at Happy Mount Park in the splash park and a stint on the beach.

School Knott, Windermere

School Knott is a great little walk, offering beautiful views over Windermere Town and the lake.  You can start this walk from Windermere or Bowness, but to keep it easy for little legs, we parked near Windermere Golf Club and did the 2.5 mile lollipop loop from there.

Wythburn, Thirlmere

This beautiful and quiet 1.75 mile walk takes you along the River Wyth Burn into a peaceful valley at the southern end of Thirlmere reservoir.  It’s a fairly easy walk, with only a slight ascent.  It can be boggy in parts, especially after periods of wet weather, so wear appropriate footwear! The kids will have fun clambering over the many different sized rocks along the way.

Cautley Spout, Howgills

Cautley Spout, England’s highest cascade waterfall, in the Howgills, is a fantastic, easy family walk. You can do the easy 2 mile flat (ish) out and back, or the harder 3 mile route up to the top of the falls themselves. Re-fuel at the quaint Cross Keys Temperance Inn at the bottom.
