Aira Force, Ullswater

Thanks to Lee for sharing his walk today.  It’s also one of our favourites.  They went to Aira Force, on Ullswater between Glenridding and Pooley Bridge.  OS map OL5, grid reference 401201.

There’s a large National Trust car park (£5 for 2 hours, £7 for 4 hours and £9 for 4+ hours; or free to NT members) at GR 400199 on OS map OL5. This walk can be a short half hour to the main falls and back, or you can keep following the beck up to some smaller falls called High Force.

Also there is option to head on to the open fell at the top of the main falls.  By climbing higher, you get rewarded with some great views of Ullswater and the surrounding fells.  Here’s more information for the Gowbarrow walk.

Always lots of people here but it is a great walk with kids.  And so long as you’ve got your waterproofs on, it’s fun to do in wet weather too, as the falls look amazing with all that water!

Note there are two other car parks at GR397205 (very easy access to the main falls from here, making an out and back less than 1 mile) and GR397211 (easy to get to the High Force falls from here).
