Brockhole-on-Windermere

Today we returned to one of our local spots, Brockhole-on-Windermere, in between Windermere and Ambleside on the A591.  Post code for Sat Nav is LA23 1LJ.

Over recent years, the adventure playground has slowly deteriorated.  A token attempt was made last year to add in a couple of small structures, but it’s been in a sorry state for a while.  Until now… it’s had an entire and complete makeover, and now boasts a huge, amazing, modern and safe Playdale adventure playground.

In addition to the hours of fun the kids can have, there are picnic benches, both in shaded spots and out on the grass.  There’s a multitude of other things to do at Brockhole, not limited to: Brave the Cave, Tree Top Trek, Indoor Soft Play, Archery, Pony Rides, Mini Golf, Boat (kayak, canoe, paddle-board, motorboat etc) Hire, self led trails, shoreline, cafe and shop.  Prices can be found on their website.

The car park has been re-designed and new pay and display machines introduced.  There is no longer number plate recognition, but simple pay and display, with the ability to pay by card.  Prices are as follows – up to 2 hours: £3.00, 3 hours: £4.20, 4 hours: £5.40, 5 hours: £6.60, 9 hours: £8.00.  Charges for ALL vehicles.

There are some short walks round the grounds.  But you can also get the ferry from here up to Ambleside or down to Windermere for more walks.  Plus in summer, you can get the ferry to Wray Castle.  On very busy summer days the car park can often fill up quickly.  We’ve parked in Troutbeck before and done a pleasant walk down from there.  Full details can be found here for the Troutbeck-Brockhole Loop.
