Grange over Sands Promenade

Grange over Sands is a lovely little town, with an absolutely perfect promenade for a family walk.  It has a cafe, playground, skate park and is traffic free and virtually flat, so ideal for all types of wheels, including pushchairs and wheelchairs.

As an extra bonus, the railway line runs parallel to the prom, so if you have a train enthusiast, you’ll love seeing both passenger and freight trains whizz by periodically!

We parked at the car park near The Commodore Inn LA11 6DY in the centre of Grange over Sands.  Grid reference 409778 on OS map OL7.  We paid £3.90 to stay for 4 hours, although shorter (and longer) tariffs are available.

From here, we walked southwards, to the playground, then the cafe for some lunch (toilets on the prom are next to the cafe and cost 20p).  We continued on, past the old lido, and up to the skate park.

Then we headed all the way back, and continued onward to the train station, finally coming off the promenade and working our way back to the car park past the large duck pond where we fed the birds.

I’d guess we did approx 1.5-2 miles of walking / scootering / go-karting, although of course you can go as little or as far as you like, making this a very versatile, easy and fun family walk.  And there is of course the Commodore Inn next to the car park which serve home made food and were very welcoming.
