Brotherswater

Brotherswater, Patterdale

Brotherswater, in Patterdale is a beautiful and quiet place to visit.  You can do the short, 2.3 mile loop around the water, or if you have very young children, just the short walk from the car park to the little beach for a picnic and paddle! It’s a tip top picnic spot, although there are no facilities (toilets or cafe) so come prepared.

Park at grid reference 404134 on OS map OL5.  This is donation parking, with some free spaces too.  Walk through the gate and along the river until you reach Brotherswater.

There is a beautiful little beach to have a picnic on, a play or even a paddle and swim if you’re feeling brave enough!  Our kids spent a lot of time climbing on the rocks and playing in the large tree roots on the shoreline.

Follow the lake southwards, turning left to cross the river and head towards Skyeside campsite, where you’ll also find the delicious Brotherswater Inn for a pit stop!

The path along the other side of the lake shore will take you back, finishing up on the road which will lead you to the car park.

This is a nice flat and easy 2.3 mile circular walk, in a beautiful and quiet part of the Lake District.  There is a map below in the photos.
