Wet Sleddale, south of Shap

Thanks again to Lee for this fantastic squelchy walk around Wet Sleddale.  As the name suggests, you might get wet, so wellies at the ready!  Using OS map OL5, park in the car park right next to the dam at grid reference 555114.  You’ll find Wet Sleddale on the south side of Shap.

A full loop of the dam is approximately 3.5 miles. However the first part of this walk is the best bit for kids, so you could make this into a shorter walk by turning back if young legs get tired.

This walk has all sorts for the kids on the way round, puddles full of tadpoles at the moment (April), bogs for squelching, streams for splashing, rocks for climbing, bridges for pooh sticks.  It passes close to a working farm so lambs can also be seen at the moment, and there’s even a film set as well! (Withnail and I).

It took us about two and a half hours with a three and a half year old walking all the way.
