Today’s walk through Borrowdale was a truly amazing family adventure! It had everything that the kids (and adults alike) loved… a cave, large boulders to clamber over, stepping stones across a river, shoreline to throw stones in, an exciting scree slope climb, toasting marshmallows on an open fire and amazing views over the Borrowdale valley and Derwentwater. This walk is definitely one our family favourites so far.
We had a very adventurous family weekend in Eskdale, in the western Lake District. We started with a trip on the Ravensglass to Eskdale Steam Railway, went fro a lovely walk and ended up staying in a camping pod at Eskdale Campsite

Mirehouse and Gardens, near Bassenthwaite are a fantastic place in the Lake District for a family walk and adventure! We did a 1.5 mile loop walk that also takes in the 4 adventure play areas in Mirehouse Gardens.
Bowscale Tarn near Mungrisdale is an easy 3.5 mile out and back walk up to a beautiful and peaceful mountain tarn. The ascent is gradual and the path very easy to navigate.
This walk is to the very quiet and peaceful Small Water, and can be found at the end of Haweswater. The drive along Haweswater is stunningly beautiful, and we stopped several times to take photos.
