We're an active family, with a 4 and 6 year old, from Bowness on Windermere in the Lake District. This page follows some of our adventures into the fells, pubs and local areas

Barker Scar, near Old Park Wood, Holker

There is a cave about half way along Barker Scar, at Old Park Wood, near Holker in the South Lakes. Aside from the cave, there is plenty to enjoy and explore on this stretch of Morecambe Bay / River Leven estuary coastline.

Sale Fell, Bassenthwaite

Sale Fell, at the north end of Bassenthwaite in the Lake District is a great fell for little legs! And it’s a Wainwright, with the peak at 359 metres (1177 feet). We did a 2 mile circular walk (option to extend to 3 miles), on mostly wide open grassy paths. It offers spectacular views of the northern fells, Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater.
